Glossary of Terms


Assigned printer - The printer that will be used to print the labels. This setting does not affect the Windows default printer setting.  

Col file - The color palette file contains color designations for label design elements.

Dat file - The data file is a text file of entered or imported data that will print on the label.

Dct file - The dictionary file is used to assign color codes to common name prefixes.  Examples include doctors' names, states, product lines, etc.

Def file - The definition file contains the code for the overall look of the label.

Delimiter - The unique character that separates each field in the data file.

Design - The blueprint or model containing all the components of the finished label.

Fld file - The field file contains column headings shown in the edit screen.

Inc file - The increment file stores the next incrementing number.

Label alignment - Settings that control the position of the labels being printed.

Lut file - The lookup table file contains the information used in a drop-down menu for frequently used data in a specified field.

Mul file - The multiple page file is required when using a design that prints a set of labels for each record entered, alternating between design formats.  It must be created before the project.

Project - The LPJ file contains file locations, commands, and settings.

Record - A record is a complete line of data.

Standard designs - The most common designs available - there are 10 included with TABQUIK.  These design files are located in the stdlabel sub-folder of the installtion directory.
